Case Study: Helping A Global Law Firm Expand Their Birmingham IT Team Using Our Networks

2

Roles hired

A global law firm was struggling to secure tech talent in Birmingham, due to the recruitment agency suppliers on their PSL being London-based with limited knowledge of the Birmingham IT recruitment market.

The client's challenge…

The firm had established an office branch in Birmingham a few years prior, and due to a range of factors, including rising costs, wanted to further build out their Birmingham office’s IT team further. However, they experienced recruitment issues from the outset. Whilst they were previously able to hire with ease in London, in Birmingham, they could not secure the right professionals, and retention was low for new joiners.

This global law firm’s main issue was that their IT recruitment partner on their PSL (Preferred Service List) was too London-centric and had limited networks and expertise outside of the capital.

The client had been trying to secure an IT Site Lead, but the search had been unsuccessful for almost 18 months, with candidates repeatedly dropping out of the process.

Realising this was due to their recruitment agency lacking in connections and market expertise outside of London, the firm went back out to tender.

After researching IT recruitment agencies in Birmingham online, they came across VIQU IT’s profile and website. The client was impressed by the breadth of our 5* Google reviews, which noted our strong expertise in the Birmingham tech market. They invited us to tender to work with them on their PSL. After meeting multiple stakeholders within the organisation, presenting our services, attending an interview, and providing clear case studies and testimonials which proved our deep knowledge of the local Birmingham market, we were successfully onboarded onto the PSL.

Our actions…

After securing our place on this global law firm’s PSL, our team quickly began working on two roles the firm was actively recruiting for at that time.

In order to obtain the best talent, we leveraged our broad local networks to identify individuals who had the right skills and experience to align with the law firm’s needs. This included utilising our database of Birmingham tech talent we had worked with previously, most of whom were passive candidates who were not active on job boards. Additionally, we launched several outreach email campaigns to connect with professionals who would be a great fit for this law firm.

As this firm is located close to our Birmingham office and had experienced a high drop-out of candidates and new starters previously, our team ensured that we were regularly meeting candidates in person before and after interviews to offer an additional personal touch and ensure they weren’t going to exit the process. We made sure to closely manage those key relationships during vulnerable stages of the process through regular, personalised communication.

The outcomes…

After securing our place on this global law firm’s PSL near the end of 2025 and becoming their go-to partner for recruiting Birmingham tech talent, we have successfully hired two professionals on their team. The included an IT Site Lead – the role the client had been struggling to fill for over 18 months! Additionally, we supported the recruitment of a Service Lifecycle Manager.

Both professionals started their roles on-time and we have received excellent feedback from both parties since. These successful placements finally ended the negative recruitment and retention streak the client had been experiencing.

We are currently working on multiple tech roles for this law firm, and we look forward to our partnership becoming increasingly fruitful and productive.

"It was fantastic to help this client finally secure the IT talent they needed."

We are so pleased to have secured our place on this client’s PSL and look forward to continuing to work with their team.
